At Clairemont Village Pet Clinic in San Diego, CA, we offer exams that check for common pet diseases and other health conditions that are easier to treat when we catch them early. Knowing what will happen during your pet’s exam makes it easier to prepare for your pet’s first visit to our clinic.
How Often Should You Bring Your Pet for a Wellness Exam?
It is best to bring your pet to a veterinariain as soon as possible. Even if your pet had an exam at the animal shelter or with their prior owner, you’ll still want to bring them to our office to make sure that nothing was missed. After that, you’ll usually bring your new pet in for a check-up once per year.
What Happens During a Pet Check-Up?
When you arrive for your pet’s first wellness exam, we’ll take a few minutes to help you finish up any necessary paperwork and let your pet get acquainted with our vet and other members of the staff. Once your pet is comfortable, we’ll conduct a thorough visual exam and look for issues that include obvious signs of fleas, hot spots, allergies, and other common issues. Depending upon your type of pet’s needs, we’ll also do some bloodwork and another testing to check for parasites and other diseases.
What Common Pet Diseases Will a Vet Check for During the Exam?
Parasites are common in puppies and kittens. Left untreated, these can lead to weight loss and malnutrition that can impact your pet’s development. If our veterinarian identifies any health issues, treatment will begin immediately.
